    Alexander Vorozhbitov

Moscow Urban Forum 2019 “Quality of life. Projects that change cities" opened today at Concert Hall "Zaryadye". This year, the forum is dedicated to discussion of issues and presentations of initiatives of city administrations, businesses, citizens, which are aimed at ensuring a balanced and sustainable development of cities, improving the quality of life through the implementation of large-scale projects. Alexander Vorozhbitov, General Director of the Metropolis company, gave an interview to the Moscow Perspective. A special issue of "Moscow is changing" is timed to coincide with the opening of MUF 2019.

Moscow is one of the most dynamically developing metropolises in the world. A large number of programs are being implemented here that are designed to make life in the city comfortable for everyone. All this is impossible without modern social and sports facilities. Design organizations are under an especially high pressure today. After all, it is they who need to lay down the technologies, which might influence what institution will be in demand and whether it will be able to meet the demands of today.

    - The portfolio of projects of Metropolis LLC includes a large number of sports and medical facilities. Is this your company profile?

We design buildings for various purposes: multifunctional complexes, hotels, shopping and office centers and residential buildings. As for healthcare and sports, these projects do occupy a special place in our portfolio due to their importance for the urban environment. Cities are changing rapidly today, and the Russian capital is no exception. Creating a comfortable infrastructure is the trend of the time. All this is impossible without high-quality medicine and modern sports complexes.

    - However, medical facilities and sports facilities are not at all the same thing…

True, but this concerns primarily the purpose of these structures. In terms of design, sports and medical facilities have a lot in common. These are buildings with a mass presence of people, which imposes appropriate restrictions and requirements for infrastructure, logistics, and security.

    - Recently, one of the projects that your team worked on was opened - the Rhythmic Gymnastics Palace of Irina Viner-Usmanova. What is special about this building?

This is a sports complex for rhythmic gymnastics competitions, training, recreational and public events. The building will be able to function in the mode of training, concerts, national and international competitions. By the way, the uniqueness of this project is noted not only in our country, but also abroad. In 2016, at the BIM-technologies international competition, the palace was recognized as the best among sports facilities created in BIM, and this year the complex was awarded the main award of the Aluminum in Architecture competition. The architectural part of the project is the result of the creativity and work of TPO Pride, our task was to translate their bold solutions into technical and technological sections.

    - What other sports facilities have been designed by Metropolis LLC?

Our company participated in the development of project documentation and detail design in terms of structural and engineering solutions for the Luzhniki Grand Sports Arena. The stadium has become a multifunctional complex with rich infrastructure. Another project in which we are participating is the reconstruction of the Luzhniki swimming pool together with the UNK Project. It provides for the creation of a modern multifunctional swimming center. In addition, our specialists were involved in other sports facilities. In Moscow, this is the Dynamo stadium in Petrovsky Park, the indoor skating rink of Moskomsport on Michurinsky Prospekt, in Krasnodar - the arena of the football club of the same name.

    - Your company is called one of the leaders in the use of information modeling technologies. Do you agree with this statement?

We have been working in BIM for a long time, this technology has a lot of advantages. Recently, representatives of our company entered the Open Expert Group on the implementation of BIM technology of the Public Council under the Ministry of Construction of Russia. This is a high assessment of the professional qualities of our specialists.

    - Moscow has announced a program for the renovation of the healthcare system. This applies both to the reconstruction of existing hospitals and the construction of new ones. What objects do you have at work?

Now we are involved in the design of the concepts of three healthcare facilities. All three projects belong to different medical areas, but all of them are technologically complex facilities and will be equipped with modern equipment.

    - What are the characteristics of these projects?

In addition to hospitals, the planned hospitals will house such departments as resuscitation intensive care units, hemodialysis wards, diagnostic rooms (MRI, CT, echocardiography, X-ray diagnostics), laboratories, pharmacies. There are also special rooms for lectures, departments, conference rooms for organizing the educational process and holding thematic conferences.

    - What international companies do you cooperate with on medical projects?

Each project has its own team. An international team is involved in the development of project documentation for one of the hospitals. Architectural and planning solutions are carried out by the Nickl & Partner bureau from Munich, technological solutions - MMI, coordination of work - Sendler & partners. All participants have many years of experience in designing medical facilities around the world. The participation of foreign partners in the city's program for the construction and reconstruction of medical institutions will make it possible to use international experience. Adaptation of the solutions developed by foreign partners for compliance with the standards of the Russian Federation, as well as the development of structural and engineering systems of the building, is carried out by our company. The comfort of patients and the absence of the "feeling of a hospital" is one of the tasks of architects when designing facades and interiors. At the same time, the latest medical standards are laid down in technological solutions.
