On June 24, the opening of a new medical and diagnostic complex took place at the Skolkovo International Medical ClusterMoscow City Oncological Hospital No. 62 is a long–awaited event for the Metropolis team, which designed the surgical intensive care unit.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko, and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin. The new complex has become one of the key facilities of the capital's cancer care system and an important milestone in the development of the country's medical infrastructure.

The complex, with a total area of more than 65,000 square meters, includes two buildings that house diagnostic departments, a day hospital for chemotherapy, modern laboratories, high-tech operating rooms, and specialized cancer treatment centers. The facility will begin accepting patients on June 29.

A modern cancer center is a high-tech complex that includes diagnostic units, operating rooms, intensive care units, laboratories, inpatient facilities, engineering life support systems, and specialized medical equipment.

When designing such healthcare facilities, it is necessary to take into account dozens of interrelated factors: separation of patient and medical staff flows, sanitary and epidemiological requirements, reliability of engineering infrastructure, uninterrupted operation of equipment, requirements for the sterility of premises, and the possibility of further modernization of medical technologies without significant reconstruction of the building.

In fact, designers create an environment whose quality directly affects the efficiency of doctors, the safety of patients, and the possibility of using advanced treatment methods.

The new complex includes an operating and resuscitation building, which was designed by the Metropolis company.

It is here that the most technologically advanced and complex spaces of the medical complex are located. The building houses 18 operating rooms (including an angiographic room, two robotic rooms, a CT-guided room, an emergency room, and others), an intensive care unit, a specialized hospital, a reference center for pathomorphology, a laboratory for onco-genetics and onco-cytology, and a pharmacy. The building covers an area of 13,800 square meters.

Such facilities have exceptional requirements for design solutions. Each engineering system must work as part of a single mechanism: ventilation and medical gases, power supply, security systems, dispatching, specialized medical equipment, and infrastructure for high-tech surgical procedures.

For designers, this means that they need to take into account not only regulatory requirements and current medical standards, but also the prospects for technological development in the years to come. This is why modern medical facilities are designed with the principles of adaptability and the possibility of further technological upgrades in mind. This approach was also applied to the construction of the operating and intensive care unit of the new complex at MCOH No. 62.

The work on the operating and resuscitation building of the 62nd Municipal Hospital has become part of a large-scale project that is currently influencing the development of the entire healthcare and oncology system in Moscow. For Metropolis, participating in the creation of such facilities provides an opportunity to apply comprehensive project expertise where the quality of architectural, structural, and engineering solutions directly affects the quality of medical care.

The opening of the complex was the final stage in the formation of a new framework for the Moscow oncology service. Today, this system includes five multidisciplinary oncology centers that provide a full range of services, from early diagnosis to surgical treatment, drug therapy, and follow-up care.

Speaking about the results of the industry's modernization, Tatyana Golikova noted: "Thanks to medical examinations and check-ups, the number of cancer patients detected during this seven-year period has increased sevenfold. During the same seven-year period, the mortality rate has decreased by more than 36%."

"Oncology is becoming an increasingly important factor. This depends primarily on life expectancy. In Moscow, life expectancy has reached 80 years this year. The longer life expectancy, the more patients who are diagnosed with cancer. Previously, cancer was a death sentence, but today it is a disease that requires timely diagnosis and quality treatment. Therefore, Moscow has established a network of five powerful clinics, which serve as the backbone of the cancer service. And now the 62nd is actually completing this work on the creation of modern cancer clinics in Moscow, which conduct everything from diagnosis and treatment and then patient management," said Sergei Sobyanin.
